Spokane (The Lilac City)

Spokane is the second largest city in Washington State. It is part of a metropolitan area that includes Couer d'Alene Idaho with a population of 228,999 (600,292 in the metropolitan area).

One of a few cities in the United States that has a waterfall in it's downtown area.

Spokane represents it's tribal history in the area as well as it's name (the name Spokane means "Children of the Sun") with tribal land located in Stevens County.

The city is located in the Inland Empire that has represented the railways, mining, and aluminum production industries. In the 1990's, customer service call centers. Keytronic is major company that makes many computer keydoards.

Since the 1970's, Spokane has received attention from hosting Expo 74, the fallout of ash from Mt. Saint Helens, and the community support of the motion picture Vision Quest.

Most of the attention does happen through Gonzaga Univerity, a Jesuit university, that has many of it's basketball teams in NCAA Championships including the national title.

Bing Crosby and his family, relocated from Tacoma to Spokane (at the age of 3) where his former home is on the campus of the Bulldogs.

Spokane enjoys a year long recreational presence from it's bodies of water and skiing at nearby Mt. Spokane.

Many have found Spokane a place to live with a lower cost of living in Washington State that have made some relocate from the Seattle area to the other side of the state.
