Spokane does have many parks throughout the area. Just about every neighborhood has some some open space area.
Riverfront Park is the major park for the Downtown Spokane area.
It is 100 acres of open space connecting pedestrian bridges to islands that surround the Spokane River and the falls.
Created after Expo 74 was closed, President Jimmy Carter opened up the park in 1977.
There are plenty of activies for everybody.
Spokane has done a few things that are similar to what Seattle Center does on the other side of the state with the First Interstate Opera House and an amphitheater for entertainment.
A convention center connects to the opera house in the same location where the amusement section operated during the fair.
During this trip, there were proposals to update some of the briges in the park with fundraising activities going on.
While there is a homeless concern in the area, there wasn't any homeless encampments found on or near the park.
