Oregon Zoo

Oregon Zoo

It took some time to visit this place but anyone who visits the Rose City should make this a must see.

The Oregon Zoo is located in Portland and houses one of the largest habitats of elephants providing an indoor and an outdoor setting.

A great deal of the park surrounds the elephants. When having lunch on the grounds, you can see them while eating in the picnic area (you can bring your own food).

Zooliner

The Oregon Zoo is known for it's trains that travel on a track within the middle of the park. At one time, the train provided transportation between the Rose Garden and the zoo but tranportation needs by Tri Met have reduced the travel area of the train.

The train featured in this slide show coveres the train, created to scale, that is designed after the GM Aeroliner, a short lived passenger train during the 1950's used by the Rock Island Railway. The decision to build this train was decided by Portland elementary school students in 1957.
