Exercise Tips
During Covid, there have been some challenges for many to get exercise (especially when sitting in front of a computer for most of the day).
Certainly companies such as Peloton have profited from making a exercise system that is interactive and works with technology in your own home but at a very expensive price.
If you do belong (or did so before Covid) to the gym there are some ways to still get exercise from your own desk when the gym or fitness center isn't available.
There are many inexpensive options to do and it is good idea to pick one to avoid any future health concerns that I was made aware of when the gym was closed.
While the recommendations are to get 10,000 steps a day may seem like a lot, getting close to that amount is helpful for you as well.
On average, this how many miles that amount of steps walked goes:
#/Steps |
Miles |
2,000-2,500 |

10,000 |

As you can see, it can take some time (during the day) to get those recommended 10,000 steps completed.
Pedals under the desk
I have used pedals under my desk for years after finding a very inexpensive set on Amazon. There are many to choose from taking very little space.
When used with your fitness tracking devices, it is a good way to get those 10,000 steps in.
Handheld Weights
Another item that can be stored under most desks. There has been a demand for these and many stores can be out of them. If your community has a used fitness store, it is an alternative to get some.
5-20 lbs of lifting can help with your upper body, arms, and wrists.
Fitness Bands
I was resilient (pardon the pun) to use these at first but it has helped with my shoulders and arms. Some bands have some good resistance to them and are a low price to use.
Using a bike outdoors
I had one in storage. Once Covid closed my gym, I decided to take my 21 speed bike out for runs (3-5 miles/day).
Since using it, I decided to upgrade the frame into a mountain bike putting in a new shock and tires for riding on rough streets and dirt trails.
Walk, Jog, or Run
If the weather is great, it is good to get outdoors and get some movement around the neighborhood.
Check for gyms (if not a member of one)
Todays inflation prices haven't heart the gym industry and many are very reasonable to join.
As things are beginning to open after Covid, there are some good deals since many have decided to not go back to the gym.
Perhaps those that have purchased Peloton decided to stay at home.
